Skate News - BaySixty6 anniversary
Posted 06/15/2007 by Vans UK
This Saturday past saw the reopening of the new and improved BaySixty6 skate park in Ladbroke Grove, London. Doors opened at 12pm to a bounty of eager young skaters anxious to get their boards on virgin plywood. Predictably, most sponsored riders turned up a few hours later! Ams and pro's a like rocked up from all over the country with a notable heavy crew of Vans riders consisting of James Gardner, Kris Vile, 'Gorgeous' Dave Watson, Marc Churchill, Danny Wainwright, Chris Oliver, Pete King, Sam Bruce and new boy Ben Nordberg. The comp went off with all riders obviously enjoying the new park, which is way better than before. Congratulations to Kris Vile who placed 2nd in the sponsored comp and skated super good all day. Keep your eyes peeled on the upcoming Sidewalk magazine for coverage of the event. Click on title for video
Meanwhile over in Malmo, Sweden Vans riders Ross McGouran and Kevin McKeown were competing in the Quiksilver Bowlriders competition at one of the best concrete parks in Europe. 'Meanwhile' Kev skated well and just missed making the cut to the semis, he was later thrown in the river for his efforts. Ross was killing it all weekend ended up in the final where the standard was ridiculous (baring in mind that last years winner Daniel Cardone didn't even make the cut!). In the searing heat is was obvious that everyone was suffering but Ross came through with some sick no-comply tailslides, kickflip melons and super tweaked airs. I think everyone who saw Ross skate this weekend would agree he's really stepped it up yet another gear and well and truly earned his 4th place and £2000 prize. Good work Ross. Once again look out for coverage in the next Sidewalk.
And finally this busy weekend over at the girls jam in St Albans Samantha Bruce took 3rd Place in the Street comp and upcoming young ripper Helena Long took 1st on the mini. Nice one ladies.
