The Vans Off the Wall Music Night is back

Posted 08/27/2009 by Vans UK

1 night - 12 countries - Over 20 bands

30th October 2009

FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND and FIGHTSTAR

co-headline special one-off UK show

The Vans Off the Wall night returns for a second year this October and is set to be bigger and better than ever. Bringing a little rock to Halloween, the pan-European music night will again take place simultaneously across different cities. Extending from five to twelve countries Vans will create an evening of rock and punk with live performances across, Germany, Greece, Italy, Poland, Portugal Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, UK and Ukraine.

The UK event will see FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND and FIGHTSTAR co-headline the main stage at the brand new 02 Academy in Birmingham. For Funeral the show will mark the culmination of a month-long UK run supporting the release of their ‘Your History Is Mine: 2002-2009’ album on 28 September – a collection of 12 classic tracks plus an EP’s worth of new material. Fightstar will too be on the road in support of their latest ‘Be Human’ album, responsible for 3 Radio 1 playlist singles including the anthemic ‘Mercury Summer’. The bands saw the opportunity to join forces to give both sets of fans a night to remember, and Fightstar – who had been already booked to play the Academy the same night – were happy to throw open their show to this awesome event.

‘We haven’t played with the FFAF dudes for ages; being such close friends of ours naturally we jumped at the chance when the opportunity to co-headline the event came up!,’ said Fightstar frontman Charlie Simpson. ‘We are so excited to be sharing the stage with our good friends in Fightstar, Kids in Glass Houses and Attack! Attack!’ added Funeral vocalist Matthew Davies. ‘It's going to be wall to wall action and chaos and a lot of sweat, bucket loads, so don't forget to bring a nice anorak!’

Supporting these two heavyweights of British rock on the night will be Welsh favourites Kids in Glass Houses, fresh out of the studio – where they have been working on the follow-up to their debut album ‘Smart Casual’ – and set to storm the stage, and fellow countrymen and live favourites Attack! Attack!.

The Slam Dunk stage will also host a special reunion from Birmingham based Farse performing together for this night only and will be supported Blackfish and Me vs Hero. The third room will present the UK Now stage with Out of Sight, Saving Aimee and Young Guns to finish off a stellar line up.

Ticket holders for the Fightstar show previously scheduled on this date need do nothing as their tickets will be valid for the new event and both Saving Aimee and Young Guns will be joining the new bill from the Fightstar tour.

Vans has long strived to support self-expression, be it on a board or a bike, with a paintbrush or with a guitar. A history of collaborations is just a one indication of the long running affiliation Vans has with music. Bands such as Iron Maiden, Rise Against, Kiss, Social Distortion, the Dropkick Murphys, Mastodon, No Doubt and Millencolin have all put their name and design to a Vans shoe.
