Ox-Alien started in the late ‘80s, tagging his name on everything which came by especially on places along the train tracks and places up high. He switched to street art around the year 2000. He created his pink flying head with one eye as an “O” and one eye as a “X”, because of this some people on the streets called it “Ox-Alien” and so a name was born. He also became part of Lastplak Collective who won the people’s choice award at the first Dutch Street Art awards. Lastplak is a group of eleven painters with different backgrounds and diverse skills. Their goal is to paint, no matter what surface, size or location. Their work can be found all over the world, but their home is Rotterdam, so that’s where most of their work can be seen. But he also participated in mural projects in Thailand, France and Greece. Lately Ox-Alien is painting more on canvas and doing shows.
INTERVIEW
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
My style is imaginative, colorful and happy.
WHAT DOES “OFF THE WALL” MEAN TO YOU?
Most of the stuff I paint is on the streets. So "Off the Wall" to me means lots of things: Vans shoes, roller skates, cars, caravans ... But it doesn’t matter, I paint everything!
WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN INSPIRATIONS?
My main inspirations are comic books, candy packaging, daily life and my own imagination.
WHAT HAVE BEEN SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE REACTIONS TO YOUR WORK?
When I go back to a wall I painted and people are making photos or selfies of it that gives me a good feeling — it makes my day. Some of my images have been used for birthday cakes and even become tattoos!
IF YOU COULD DO A COLLABORATIVE PIECE WITH ANY ARTIST, LIVING OR DEAD, WHO WOULD IT BE?
I would love to make a collaborative work together with Jace from Reunion Island.
WHAT ARE SOME FAVORITE WORKS YOU’VE CREATED?
I collaborated with a lot of people in the scene but working together with the Dutch artist Edo Rath is always good fun.
WHAT THINGS DO YOU HAVE PLANNED FOR 2017/2018?
Going to Miami for Art Basel is on my bucket list but I’m also planning a lot of city-trips like Berlin and Barcelona.
